Marti Anderson was first elected to the Iowa House of Representatives in 2012 to represent Northwest Des Moines. She is now serving her fourth two-year term in the Iowa House. Marti is the Ranking Member on the Justice Appropriations Sub-committee and also serves on the Human Resources, Environmental Protection, and State Government Committees.
Marti is a Des Moines native who graduated from Des Moines’ St. Joseph Academy in 1969. She earned her BA in social work from UNI and her MSW from the University of Iowa and is a Licensed Independent Social Worker. Marti began her social work career at Broadlawns Medical Center. She served as the Statewide Rape Education Coordinator at Polk County Victim Services where she later served as Director. Marti was the first Services Director at the Polk County Family Violence Center and served as the first Community Services Coordinator at what is now Prevent Child Abuse Iowa. Marti served 22 years as founding director of the Iowa Attorney General’s Crime Victim Assistance Division. She retired from the State in 2011 to run for the State House of Representatives.
Marti lives in the Beaverdale neighborhood of northwest Des Moines, with her husband of 26 years, Bob Brammer. Her stepdaughter, Alissa, and husband, Lanon Baccam, live in Des Moines with their daughter Freya. Stepson, Gabe and his wife, Maca, live in Copenhagen, Denmark with their children, Violeta and Nicanor.
